what do you think of making a widescreen version for the PSP. the psp can host files locally therefore it would run super smooth. think about, it would be a huge hit within the PSP community.

Drupal + Flash = A Bad Case of Druplash??
Incredibly small world. While looking to see how everyone else is coupling Drupal 5 with Flash, I run into a fellow BU grad. Crazy!
I'm currently developing my company's new corporate site on Drupal 5 and have been messing with creating XML docs with PHP/mySQL to gather data for flash...but the performance really sucks. You're right, the potential is pretty amazing. Have you had any luck with building out a demo of this? If not, I will let you know when I do. -

Drupal + Flash = A Bad Case of Druplash??
Steven,
What are the server specs for your sites using the AMFPHP module with the Services module? I'm hit and miss with it. Some servers I set it up on work perfect and others never return amf calls. I'm trying to figure out the 'x-factor' that is causing the bahavior. Thank you much.Eric

The fragmented state of mobile app development
And what are the options? J2ME? Processing? Hmmm.
Yeah.
I think I'll take the bamboo.

Drupal + Flash = A Bad Case of Druplash??
Throw in that with SWFObject you can still render out your complete drupal site and then just replace the main container with Flash for javascript and flash enabled users and you are talking to just about the largest audience possible.

A house built on Cake batter?
Most of our clients know early in a project on which server the site will be hosted. This often determines the PHP or ASP.NET choice. This will also determine the PHP or Cake/PHP choice in the future.
Very few sites are built from scratch. Clients just won't wait that long. I think using something like Cake is far better than a classic codebase as it should be (hopefully) easier for other programmers to jump in. -
Because the mobile web needed to be more screwed up
I like the design of the anglerfish.... reminds me of firefox's logo because of how it flows. but umm in regards to your post.. when doesnt microsoft like to throw a wrench in the gears and say "hey we are microsoft.. we tend to be a market leader so we are gonna do our own thing and force you to code in a way that suites US and then use your standards for those small little nobodies that are everyone else in the industry." Granted they arent really a market leader for Mobile devices but it seems like they are acting like it.

The fragmented state of mobile app development
Jester I think you might find it easier to climb Mt. Everest than coding in Flash Lite... well maybe not easier...but certainly less frustrating.

Ben Folds
The concert was abso-freaking-lutely amazing.
Freebird on the piano.
Play the bass guitar and drums AT THE SAME TIME.
I don't think much more needs to be said (though there were plenty of great moments)
The music was top notch as well. Man oh man I wish every night there was as ben folds concert.
WE MUST DISCUSS!!

The fragmented state of mobile app development
Fun stuff, eh? ...so, let's see... what to do today. 1) climb Mt. Everest 2) code Flash Lite and try to make money 3) bamboo under fingernails... so many choices, so little time...

Let's all hope that Adobe gets apollo on mobile devices soon-then you can have an environment that runs webkit consistently across any models it's on.

Thanks for the links and kind words... as many have found now, though, del.icio.us is afabulous resource for sharing info and keeping things centralized. Now, it keeps me from having to actually have to remember anything. ;-)

Web Apps and the Browser Paradigm
one other point to clarify regarding the Flash 9 player is that it will play all versions of swfs, but it contains 2 distinct virtual machines that run independently, so (for example) if I have an app built in Flash 8 AS2 I can load it into an app built in Flex (Flash 9 AS3), but there is extremely limited interaction between the 2 swfs. The only way to communicate between them is using a local connection so it is probably easier to refactor them in AS3 and gain the additional speed and performance.
@Yaniv:
"In fact, my point about ASP.NET in particular, is that when combined with MS AJAX, the development productivity is very similar to that of Flex."I can see where a development toolset that streamlines production of AJAX apps could provide similar benefits to those provided by Flex for the developer, but they don't improve things for the user really. At the end of the day, you deploy and are too dependent on the client's os/browser combination to define the user experience, look/feel and functionality of your AJAX application. With Flex/Flash based apps you set the bar at: "any OS/Browser that runs the Flash player" and you are good to go.
@Chad "Try running a ASP.Net site on Safari sometime."
I feel your pain on this one! Which brings up the next question, since the word on the street is that Apollo will contain the WebKit browser that Safari is based on and is also said to support AJAX, i wonder if we will have the same AJAX issues with Apollo apps!
